So WrestleMania is all done and we’ve moved on through the always interesting RAW after WrestleMania where the live crowd can counted on to act out in a way that suggests they are there to get themselves over and not enjoy the show, and Roman Reigns continues to get the same negative reactions he was receiving in the run up to WrestleMania and at the show itself. The booing was reportedly so loud at RAW that the crowd mics were turned down (that and some of the vulgar chants during the Divas match) to not make it sound as bad. And to that I have to say……just stop already. You guys got what you wanted.
It made perfect sense to boo him at the Royal Rumble, all the way to WrestleMania, and at the show itself. I didn’t agree with you guys but you didn’t want him in the main event, and when it was too late to change that you didn’t want him to win the title. The only way to get that across was to get loud and voice your disapproval. Well, for the second year in a row you did that and it worked. The guy who Vince was going to put the title on didn’t get it. But now that’s over, so why are you still booing? Are you afraid that if you stop, Vince will try it again? i don’t see that happening. Is it because he’s dead to all of you now, for the cardinal sin of wrestling in a main event at WrestleMania at the same point in his career that the Rock did the same thing?
Oh, but he’s not the Rock you say? Well that’s true. But at that point the Rock wasn’t the Rock, either. He still was learning his way around the ring and while he was getting legit reactions from the crowd both as a heel and a face no one knew whether or not it was sustainable at that point. He had yet to show that he could be a main eventer on his own and not just the opponent in a main event. After that main event he was promptly shuffled back to the midcard for several months to feud with Billy Gunn of all people. Roman was getting good enough crowd reactions at this time last year and you guys didn’t have a problem until it got out that he was getting his main event push now instead of a year or so later and that Daniel Bryan would not be getting a repeat trip to a title match at WrestleMania 31. There really isn’t any other reason you guys can give that holds up to any real scrutiny.
OK, so I sound like I’m on Roman Reigns’ payroll. I get that. But I’m really not trying to be an apologist here. Like I’ve said before, he wasn’t ready to lead a main event match at WrestleMania so I wouldn’t have put him in there with somebody like Lesnar. But if you guys really want somebody younger to move John Cena out of his spot as the default headliner then you’re going to have to get behind somebody and Daniel Bryan is not going to be that guy. Neither is Dolph Ziggler. Seth Rollins could be, but he’s firmly established as a heel right now. Reigns doesn’t have to be that guy, but sooner or later you’re going to have to pick somebody and it’s going to be somebody Vince selects to put in front of you. Booing Roman Reigns in perpetuity isn’t going to help there.
And lastly, if they turn Reigns heel and you guys immediately start cheering him…….then I got nothing to say to you.
