Dusty Rhodes has passed away at 69 years old. Rhodes was one of wrestling’s biggest stars in the 1970s and 80s, and was my favorite NWA wrestler. Rhodes wasn’t a great technician by any measure, but he was a master on the mic and at working a crowd. I remember watching him on Saturdays take on Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen with a variety of partners. Rhodes rarely prevailed in the biggest matches but he won enough to keep it interesting. He was the perfect foil to the slick, rich, elitist, win at all costs Horsemen: a down home, jive talking, country boy who loved to hang with the little people. It was great theater, the kind of stuff you don’t see as much of today. Here are some of Dusty’s greatest hits, courtesy of YouTube.
A Classic Promo.
Dusty vs Ric Flair.
RIP Dusty. One of the best ever.
